Sukhe Val    

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sukhe or dry val.
  • 4 raw bananas, peeled and sliced.
  • 2 green and 2 fresh red chillies, minced.
  • A pinch of asafoetida.
  • ½  cup curds. 1 tsp. sugar.
  • ½ tsp. turmeric powder.
  • Handful of sliced corrian­der leaves.
  • ½ tsp. ground cumin seeds. ½  tsp. garam masala.
  • Salt and chilli powder to taste.
  • 1-inch piece ginger, minced.

 

Method:

Soak val whole night in water. Next morning, boil them in the water in which they were soaked till soft. Remove from fire and set aside, Heat 2 tblsps. oil and add chillies, asafoetida and ginger.

When the mixture turns soft. Add all the spices and fry briefly. Put in the bananas and salt and fry for 5 minutes.

Put in the curds, cover tightly and cook till the bananas are almost cooked, put in the sugar and cooked val and continue cooking till the bananas are done. Serve garnished with corriander leaves.
