Butter Scotch Cookies
- 2
cups brown sugar
- 1
cup shortening

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 cup chopped nuts
- 3½
cups sifted flour
- 1
teaspoon baking soda
- 1
teaspoon cream of tartar
- a
pinch of salt
Cream
sugar and shortening, add eggs and beat well. Add vanilla and nuts.
Work in flour which has been sifted with cream of tartar, baking
soda and salt. Shape in rolls about 2 inches. Roll in waxed paper.
Chill and cut thin and bake as desired. Oven temperature 425 degrees.
Oatmeal Cookies Ingredients:
1½
cups rolled oats ½ cup brown sugar ¾ cup flour 1 teaspoon
salt ½ teaspoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon baking soda ¼
cup boiling water ½ melted shortening Directions:
Mix
oats, sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon together. Add baking soda
dissolved in boiling water, and shortening. Mix well. Chill. Roll
out thin on slightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutter and bake
in moderate oven (350 degrees) 12 to 15 minutes. Makes about 30
cookies.
