Akki Roti or Rice Roti is another specialty from South India, specifically from Karnataka. Made regularly in North Karnataka, it has a distinct taste.
Eaten with a smearful of butter or Ghee on top, it can be different dish for either breakfast or dinner.
Pronounced as Akki Rotti in Karnataka and Arisi Rotti in Tamil Nadu, it is one special South Indian dish that you want to try. This contribution for Rice Roti comes from Kala from Bangalore.
Akki or Rice Roti
You’ll need:
- Rice flour - 1 cup
- Onions - 2
- Green chillies - 3
- Coriander finely chopped
- Methi leaves finely chopped
- Sabsige leaves finely chopped or chopped coriander leaves
- Grated carrot - 2 tsp
- Grated coconut - 2 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Gheet - 1/2 cup
- Salt to taste
Method:
Take rice flour in a big pan add chopped onions, chillies, all green leaves as above, grated carrot & coconut, cumin seeds, salt accordingly and mix well.
Add hot water to this mixture and get this to dough consistency. Grease a deep fry pan with ghee, take this mixture and press with palm to make it roti shape and then bake this roti with ghee on both sides in pan.
Taste this roti with coconut chutney.
