Easy Banana Burfi - Peda Recipe

Banana Burfi or Peda

This one has to be one of the quickest and easiest indian sweet recipes (considering how difficult they are to make).

Like most of the time in my house, whenever a new recipe is tried out, I’m usually the first person to experiment the taste. Later depending on whether I have survived the taste experiment ;-), the dish is then given to others.

This one was prepared in the evening after a local Kannada Channel (Suvarna TV) broadcast it. They called it Banana Peda, but I chose to name it Banana Peda-Burfi as the texture is between a soft peda and a hard Burfi.

The sweet sticks in your mouth and as it cools, it becomes harder. So it is advisable that it is eaten as soon as it is made.

This dessert goes well as an evening snack along with some Goli Baje and some tea. I’m sure everyone in your family will enjoy this.

Beat the heat: Quick Kesar Mango Ice-Cream

The most exciting and in-demand food must be ice-cream, both children and grown-ups love it! It’s hotting up in all parts of India, even Bangalore, where the temperature is hovering around 35 degrees celsius.

Some of the ways of keeping yourself cool is by drinking lots of water, fruit juices, or head to the nearest ice-cream shop! What if you could make ice cream at home without taking the trouble of going to the shop?

Mango season has also arrived and this might be a good chance to treat yourself. Don’t blame me if I sound like a Salesman :-); the heat is getting to me and I’m searching for anything cool and this might be a good start.Well, Jayashree Sundar from the US, shares a cool recipe for Quick Kesar and Mango Ice-Cream.

Recipe Video: Eggless Biscuit Chocolate Cake

My mom always stays away from either making or eating cakes just because of the sole reason that they contain eggs.

When I found that there are ways and recipes to make cakes without eggs, I finally found a way to convince my mother to make these delicious desserts.

I had earlier posted a video for Christmas, by Hetal and Anuja, entriprising chefs from ShowmetheCurry.com where they showed you how to make an eggless chocolate cake.

Here is another of thier recipes where they show you how to make Biscuit Cakes with Chocolate and Cocoa. This is a no-bake cake, meaning you do not have to bake. This gives me enough reason and hopefully to you too, to try and make this delicious cake.

Note: This video might not be suitable if you are on a dial-up or a slow internet connection. Let the video load first (press the play button and immediately press the pause button to make it load).< br>

Festival recipe Video: Rice Kheer (Payasam)

The fetive season is here and it will continue well until the next year. With all the Dusshera celebrations at home, I hadn’t posted in quite some time.

Keeping in mind the series of festivals that are going to come, I found Manjula’s video (courtesy: youtube.com) for making Rice Kheer or Payasam (as it is called down south India).

Payasams are a must in any Indian festival menu and with slight variations different varieties of Payasams can be made easily. This video for Rice Kheer gives you step by step instruction to make this sweet treat.

Note: Video is about 6 1/2 minutes long and will need some time to load, especially in slower internet connections. Video Courtesy - www.youtube.com and Manjula.

Video - How to make Coconut Burfi

Thenga Burfi (Coconut Burfi or Barfi) or Thengai Barbi as I have been calling it has somehow missed a place in the Blog as well as in the site. It was sheer coincidence when I found Anuja and Hetal from Show me the Curry prepare this heavenly Coconut dessert delight.

Note: The video is about 7 minutes long. A broadband internet connection is very ideal to watch videos without any problem. Just allow the video to load a bit - press the play button, browse around and come back.
